Recent Spike In Tremors Along California’s San Andreas Fault

Hey California. I know times are tough right now. The State is out of money. IOUs are being issued. The unemployment rate is close to 10% in several areas. LA just paid $1.4 million for MJ’s memorial service, and citizens have raised a whopping $17k to help pay for it. NorCal is especially distressed. Some cities are even declaring bankruptcy. And with water becoming a premium these days, some people believe that a California drought will eventually wreak havoc for the entire country, as California produces nearly a third of the US food supply. In the end, many people are wondering how the country will recover if California cannot. After all, California is the 8th largest economy in the world. The last thing that California needs is a major natural disaster. Let’s all hope and pray that the recent spike in tremors along the San Andreas fault is nothing to worry about.

Scientists have detected a spike in underground rumblings on a section of California’s San Andreas Fault that produced a magnitude-7.8 earthquake in 1857.

Tremor episodes persist today. Though the frequency of tremors have declined since 2004, scientists are still concerned because they are still at a level that is twice as high as before the 2003 quake. (Breitbart.com)

Short on money. Short on water. An economic crisis. And now you’re telling me that there are signs that a big earthquake is on the horizon for California? Jeez. This does not sound good for any of us.

The tremor activity remains about twice as high today as before the San Simeon quake (6.5 mag in 2003), while periodic peaks of activity have emerged that started to repeat about every 50 days and are now repeating about every 100-110 days.

“What’s surprising is that the activity has not gone down to its old level,” Nadeau said. The continued activity is worrisome because of the history of major quakes along this segment of the fault, and the long-ago Fort Tejon quake, which ruptured southward from Monarch Peak along 350 kilometers (220 miles) of the San Andreas Fault. (ScienceBlog.com)

Gosh. Talk about doom and gloom. I think tomorrow I’ll write something really positive about California. But for now…I don’t know about you, but I’m going to send all my positive thoughts to California. They could really use the positive energy these days.

Michael Jackson’s Ghost on CNN Coverage at Neverland Ranch

During an CNN interview with Miko Brando at Neverland Ranch, a shadowy, ghostlike figure  moves across the floor inside Michael Jackson’s house. Is this the ghost of Michael Jackson? Or is it just some shadow of a camera man or something. You be the judge. The ghostly ghost appears at the 0:20 mark of the video. Maybe it was the ghost of Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk across the hall. One last time on camera for MJ.

Social Security Numbers Code Cracked By Researchers

Identity theft is a real problem these days. All of us know at least one person who has been the victim of identity theft. And guess what – now there’s more reason than ever to fear for your identity safety. It turns out that some really smart people have figured out how to accurately predict your Social Security number by using only your birthday and state of birth. Go figure. Here’s the details from ScienceDaily.com:

Project lead Alessandro Acquisti, associate professor of information technology and public policy at Carnegie Mellon’s H. John Heinz III College, and Ralph Gross, a post-doctoral researcher at the Heinz College, have found that an individual’s date and state of birth are sufficient to guess his or her Social Security number with great accuracy.

An example is the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File, a public database with Social Security numbers, dates of birth and death, and states of birth for every deceased beneficiary. Its purpose is to prevent impostors from assuming the Social Security numbers of deceased people. But Acquisti and Gross found that analyzing the death file enabled them to detect statistical patterns that would help them predict Social Security numbers of the living.

Oh great. If you research the history of Social Security numbers, they were never meant to be used for personal identification (aka personal identifiers). Social Security numbers were developed in the 1930’s as a way to track individuals for taxation purposes. Of course, the government warned the private sector of using Social Security numbers as personal identifiers, but the private sector did not take heed of the warning. Over the years, however, many companies began to use Social Security numbers as a way to identify people. In the end, it all spells danger for us. Maybe. Just hope your number doesn’t get stolen.

To fight this problem, the Social Security Administration has been working on a system that will randomly assign Social Security Numbers. However, this is only a band-aid. We need a new personal identifier altogether. Good luck with that.

Airbus Conspiracy? Yemenia Airbus A310 Crashes Into Indian Ocean

Yemenia Airbus A310 Plane Crash Route Map Picture
Yemenia Airbus A310 Plane Crash Route Map Picture

June 2009 is turning out to be a terrible month for the Airbus line of planes. Just 30 days after an AirFrance Airbus A330-200 went down in the Atlantic Ocean, a Yemenia Airbus 310 went down in the Indian Ocean. Apparently, there were about 150 passengers on the flight, which went down while trying to land in bad weather at the island nation of Comoros. I’m sure conspiracy theories will be running rampant, as this is the second Airbus plane crash in less than a month.

Here are some breaking news stories for the Yemenia Airbus A310 crash:

  • Breaking news – Yemenia Airbus A310 crashes with 154 passengers on board (Gadling)
  • Boy, 5, rescued after jet crashes in Indian Ocean (MSNBC)

  • ‘Yemenia Air plane crash: 150 missing as Paris to Comoros islands flight crashes in Indian Ocean (Telegraph)
  • Five-year-old rescued after Yemeni plane crashes in Indian Ocean (Guardian)

Will there be any conspiracy theories about this Yemenia Airbus A310 plane crash? If so, I’ll be covering them.

Honduras President Manuel Zelaya Ousted in Coup

Oh great. Is it me, or are presidents having a tough time these days? The Iranians are still pissed about their presidential election, and now the President of Honduras has been ousted in a dawn coup, after he angered the Congress, the army and the judiciary by trying to change the Honduras constitution. President Zelaya wanted to hold a referendum that could have led to an extension of his non-renewable four-year term. A simple version of the story is:

Zelaya, in office since 2006, was overthrown in a dawn coup on Sunday after he angered the judiciary, Congress and the army by seeking constitutional changes that would allow presidents to seek re-election beyond a four-year term.

The Honduran Congress named an interim president, Roberto Micheletti, and the country’s Supreme Court said it had ordered the army to remove Zelaya. (Reuters)

As the removal of President Zelaya was not done through the democratic process (ie. democractic elections), President Obama has proclaimed the coup illegal,  basically requesting a reversal of today’s coup. And it’s not just the United States asking for President Zelaya’s return to office. Venezuelan President Hugo gathered today with a group of Latin American leaders to draft a response to Roberto Micheletti and the Honduras coup. Chavez said he would “overthrow” Micheletti. Micheletti responded with “nobody scares us.” (Breitbart)

Personally, I would take the words of Hugo Chavez seriously. Chavez means business. He has already put his troops on high alert for a military response if his ambassador to Venezuela is killed en route to the Central American country:

Chavez said on state television if his ambassador to Venezuela was killed, or if troops entered the Venezuelan Embassy, “that military junta would be entering a de facto state of war. We would have to act militarily … I have put the armed forces of Venezuela on alert.” (Reuters)

Furthermore, the president of the United Nations General Assembly invited President Zelaya to address the world gathering, and the Organization of American States also weighed in:

The Organization of American States (OAS), a group of 34 countries, of which the United States is a member, late yesterday passed a strongly worded resolution in which it condemned vehemently the coup d’état of Honduras President Zelaya. It demanded his immediate and unconditional return to power. It declared that no government arising from this coup would be recognized. It further instructed the Secretary General of the OAS to transmit this resolution to the Secretary General of the United Nations. (Examiner)

As if that wasn’t enough, the European Union is also weighing in on the coup d’état of Honduras President Zelaya:

“I regret the recent events which have taken place in Honduras,” E.U. External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said after the Honduran army ousted elected President Manuel Zelaya and sent him into exile. “The European Commission attaches the greatest importance to the respect for the rule of law, democracy and the democratically elected institutions,” she stressed. “Therefore, we urge all parties involved to resolve their differences peacefully, in full respect of the country’s legal framework, and to promptly engage in a dialogue,” Ferrero-Waldner added. (Nasdaq)

And don’t look now, but it turns out that Cuba is also condemning the coup in Honduras:

Acting in the style of the most violent and ruthless Latin American dictatorships of the past, the military troops attacked the President Manuel Zelaya´s residence taking advantage of the night darkness and under the violence of weapons, said the ambassador. “Such action was aimed at choking the popular expression and preventing the carring out of an important democratic referendum to be held in Honduras on Sunday,” he added. Moreno believed that the coup in Honduras “is also a blow against us all. It is against the sacred values that the United Nations Organization defends. ” (Radio Guantanamo)

Meanwhile, back in Honduras the new interim president Micheletti has ordered a 48-hour curfew (BBC News). Micheletti claims that he became the new president “as the result of an absolutely legal transition process,” and he will only be serving the remainder of Zelaya’s current term, which ends of January 27, 2010.

President Obama has condemned the coup, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has not formally designated it a military coup. A military coup would force a cut-off of most United States aid to Honduras. It’s interesting to note here that President Zelaya was removed from his house by Army troops and then forced onto a plane that flew him out of the country. I’m not sure about the exact definition of ‘military coup’, but that scenario sounds a to be a little on the military side. Regardless, I sincerely hope that this event doesn’t harm our relations with Honduras.

With major events in North Korea, Iran and now Honduras, I’m not feeling too good about the rest of 2009. Let’s all pray that things settle down a little bit.

Did Michael Jackson Predict His Own Death? Check the Lyrics of the Song Morphine.

In a song titled Morphine off of Michael Jackson’s 1997 album Blood on the Dance Floor (info), MJ may have predicted his own death in a cry for help. Early reports of his death were citing staff members who said that MJ had taken Demerol before he went into cardiac arrest. Other reports are citing that the King of Pop was addicted to painkillers and that it was a situation that his family and friends were aware of.

Here are the lyrics that to Morphine, a song that Michael Jackson wrote in 1997:

He got flat baby
Kick in the back baby
A heart attack baby
I need your body

A hot kiss honey
He’s just a bitch baby
You make me sick baby
So unrelying

I’m such a swine baby
All down the line daddy
I hate your kind baby
So unreliable

A hot buzz baby
He’s one of us baby
Another drug baby
You so desire

Trust in me
Trust in me
Put all your trust in me
You’re doin’ morphine

Hoo!

They got place baby
Kicked in the face baby
You hate your race baby
You’re just a liar

Your every lick baby
Your dog’s a bitch baby
You make me sick baby
You soul survivor

She never cut from me
She never cut baby
I had to work baby
You just a rival

Always to please daddy
Right up and leave daddy
You’re thorwing shame daddy
So undesirable

Trust in me
Just in me
Put all your trsut in me
You’re doin’ morphine

Go’on babe

Relax
This won’t hurt you
Before I put it in
Close your eyes and count to ten
Don’t cry
I won’t convert you
There’s no need to dismay
Close your eyes and drift away

Demerol
Demerol
Oh God he’s taking demerol
Demerol
Demerol
Oh God he’s taking demerol

He’s tried
Hard to convince her
To be over what he had
Today he wants it twice as bad
Don’t cry
I won’t resent you
Yesterday you had his trust
Today he’s taking twice as much

Demerol
Demerol
Oh God he’s taking demerol
Hee-hee-hee
Demerol
Demerol
Oh my Oh God it’s Demerol
Hee
Oooh

Oh!

He got shit baby
Your dog’s a bitch baby
You make me sick baby
You are a liar

Is truth a game daddy
To win the fame baby
It’s all the same baby
You’re so reliable

Trust in me
Trust in me
Put all your trust in me
She’s doin’ morphine

Hoo!

You just sit around just talkin’ nothing
You’re takin’ morphine
Hoo!
Go’on baby
You just sit around just talking about it
You’re takin’ morphine
Hoo-hoo!
Just sit around just talking nothing about it
You’re takin’ morphine
You just sit around just talking about it
You’re taking morphine
You just sit around just talkin’ nothin’
And takin’ morphine

Hoo-hoo
I’m going down baby
You’re talkin’ Morphine

Go’on baby!
Hoo!
Hoo!
Morphine!
Do it!
Hoo!
He’s takin’ morphine
Morphine!
Morphine!

From a closer look at these lyrics, this song appears to be extremely autobiographical in nature, and it is definitely an insight into his feelings and emotions during a time of addiction. If nothing else, this song is a first person account of his experience while he was fighting a painkiller addiction back in the mid to late 1990’s. Knowing that he took Demerol before he died yesterday, this line stands out: “Oh God he’s taking demerol.

Michael Jackson obviously had some issues, and he needed help. This song pretty much proves that. This song was likely a way for him to voice his emotions during a time when he was addicted to painkillers back in the 1990’s. Yet there is also something very haunting about it today. You might say conclude that this is a song where MJ predicted his own demise and death from an addiction to painkillers. Such a tragedy.

Michael Jackson Death Conspiracy Theory

Here we are not even 24 after Michael Jackson’s tragic death, and the Michael Jackson death conspiracy theories are spiraling out of control. In fact, I don’t think we have ever seen a celebrity death as big as MJ’s. With the amount of social media services out there, the commentary, news and conspiracy theories are spreading like wildfire. There is a post over at Mashable, claiming that 22% of all tweets contain the term ‘Michael Jackson’, and nearly 30% of all tweets are about Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson’s Death: Conspiracy or Cardiac Arrest?

Okay. You know me. I’ll cover a conspiracy theory. Whenever someone as famous as Michael Jackson dies, you can bet your most prized possession that there will be a Michael Jackson Conspiracy Theory. And I’ll be here to find and post as many as I can!

Michael Jackson died today at the age of 50. He had been living just off the Sunset Strip for the past several months in a $100,000 per month rental house. For weeks he has been rehearsing for his 50-show comeback tour in London’s O2 arena. There was a lot of money tied up in those shows. I’ve seen a few people say that Michael’s death is somehow related to money, but I bet that the sponsor (AEG Live) of his 50-show comeback tour will argue that theory because there is a massive financial headache and potential fallout from Michael’s untimely death.

Here is a link to a last picture of Michael Jackson: ET Online

Now, here are some of the ‘Michael Jackson died from’ theories and conspiracy theories circulating around the world right now:

  • Did painkiller addiction and pressure of making a comeback kill Michael Jackson? (dailymail.co.uk)
  • Collapsed after an injection of Demerol (thesun.co.uk)
  • Michael Jackson is dead…Now how long until it becomes a conspiracy? (abovetopsecret.com)
  • Michael Jackson’s death brings conspiracy theory back into spotlight (jacksonnjonline.com)
  • Michael Jackson faked his own death (colbertnation.com)
  • MJ killed by new experimental bio weapon (topix.com)
  • Was Michael Jackson murdered? (selectsmart.com)
  • Tito did it? (wikipedia.org) [some jerk always has to make stupid edits to Wiki after tragedies]
  • Faked his death to pay off debt and make money (denverpost.com)
  • They come in 3’s: Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson (penny-arcade.com)

I, for one, believe Michael Jackson has died. I believe he is dead. TMZ, who broke the news of Michael Jackson’s death earlier today, is reporting that MJ’s autopsy has been expidited. It will take place tomorrow. Hopefully we will all find out the exact cause of his death, so everyone out there can have some closure. However, I’m sure that no matter what the coroner says, conspiracy theories will abound. People will claim that Michael Jackson killed himself, was murdered, faked his death, etc… That’s just the nature of humans these days. When anything happens, we have to create a conspiracy theory. But who knows? Maybe they are right – because it’s also true that nothing is what it seems these days.

Regardless, this was definitely a tragedy. No question about it. Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family and friends. May the King of Pop rest in peace.

Michael Jackson is Dead (TMZ Reports)

Holy crap! TMZ is reporting that Michael Jackson has died of a cardiac arrest (source):

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.

We’re told one of the staff members at Jackson’s home called 911.

La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince “Blanket” Michael Jackson II.

Wow. I’m stunned. Simply stunned.

After looking at several news websites more information is coming out, but no one has officially reported his death.

From the LA Times Blog (source):

[Updated at 2:46 p.m.: Pop star Michael Jackson is in a coma and family have are arriving at his bedside, a law enforcement source told The Times.

Jackson was rushed to a hospital this afternoon by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.

Capt. Steve Ruda said paramedics responded to a call at Jackson’s home around 12:26 p.m. He was not breathing when they arrived. The parademics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told The Times.

[Updated at 2:12 p.m.: Paramedics were called to a home on the 100 block of Carolwood Drive off Sunset Boulevard. Jackson rented the Bel Air home for $100,000 a month. It was described as a French chateau estate built in 2002 with seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 12 fireplaces and a theater.

The home is about 2 1/2 miles, about a six-minute drive, from UCLA Medical Center. An earlier version of this post incorrectly described the time to travel between the home and hospital as two minutes.]

The news comes as Jackson, 50, was attempting a comeback after years of tabloid headlines, most notably his trial and acquittal on child molestation charges.

In May, The Times reported that Jackson had rented the Bel Air residence and was rehearsing for a series of 50 sold-out shows in London’s O2 Arena. Jackson had won the backing of two billionaires to get the so-called “King of Pop” back on stage.

His backers envision the shows at AEG’s O2 as an audition for a career rebirth that could ultimately encompass a three-year world tour, a new album, movies, a Graceland-like museum, musical revues in Las Vegas and Macau, and even a “Thriller” casino. Such a rebound could wipe out Jackson’s massive debt.

TMZ is reporting that Michael Jackson has died. No one else is reporting that he is dead. And I mean no one. In fact, the LA Times Blog is saying that Michael Jackson is in a coma and that his family are arriving at his bedside. Let’s hope for the best. It would be terrible to lose the King of Pop at only 50-years-old.

From the New York Times (source):

Reports: Jackson in a Coma | 6:15 p.m.  Several news organizations including the Los Angeles Times reported that Mr. Jackson “is in a coma.” The newspaper attributed the news to one law enforcement source. CNN is also citing “multiple sources” as saying that Mr. Jackson is in a coma.

From the Los Angeles Times (source):

[Updated at 3:15 p.m.: Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.]

[Updated at 2:46 p.m.:  Jackson is in a coma and family have are arriving at his bedside, a law enforcement source told The Times.

Flight 447 Black Boxes Countdown: Search Teams Have 8 Days

On Tuesday, the French newspaper Le Monde broke a story that a French submarine had detected sounds from the Air France Flight 447 black boxes (abclocal.go.com). Here’s the original story:

PARIS, June 23, 2009

Air France Black Boxes Reportedly Detected

French Newspaper Says Navy Has Picked Up “Very Weak” Signal From Data Recorders At Bottom Of Atlantic

(CBS) A newspaper reported Tuesday that French naval vessels had detected a “very weak” signal from flight data recorders, or black boxes, of downed Air France flight 447, which plunged into the Atlantic on June 1. Le Monde said on its Web site a mini submarine was being sent to try and retrieve the vital aircraft components at a depth of some 5,000 yards, but the recovery was being hampered by strong currents. The Airbus A330 crashed into the ocean in the midst of a flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Paris, killing all 228 passengers and crew aboard. Ten of 50 bodies recovered from the flight have been identified as Brazilians, medical examiners said Monday. Investigators cite broken limbs sustained by the victims whose bodies were recovered in drawing their preliminary conclusion that the aircraft broke up in the air before plunging into the southern Atlantic. Recovery of the black boxes has been the central focus of the search effort, as information contained in the recorders should be able to shed further light on what downed the passenger jet.

Later on in the day, a France Transport Ministry official denied that the ping detected was that of a black box from Air France Flight 447 (more at Reuters).

The original reports from Le Monde were that a mini research submarine, the Nautile, was sent down to search for the 2 Flight 447 black boxes based on the report of a very weak signal from the flight recorders. Supposedly, French ships had detected this very weak signal during a search near the presumed crash location in the deepest depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

Investigators are still looking for debris and bodies from the doomed Air France flight. Knowing that the flight’s data recorder and voice recorder (aka the black boxes) will transmit a signal for about 30 days after an accident, search and rescue teams are down to about 8 days left. Flight 447 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on June 1st, so that gives them just over a week to find the Flight 447 black boxes.

French ships, which include a nuclear submarine with advanced acoustic sonar equipment, have been searching an area with a 50 mile radius, and they are sending United States Navy underwater listening devices to depths of nearly 20,000 feet. This particular area of the Atlantic Ocean is not very search friendly. It’s a very remote area of the Atlantic, and the terrain in this particular region is very mountainous. To makes matters even worse the black boxes have a signal that will only travel about 1.25 miles. The black boxes contain locator beacons, known as pingers, and those pingers will send an electronic impulse every second for at least 30 days. Given all the circumstances involved with this crash, locating the electronic tapping sound and finding these black boxes would be nothing short of a miracle.

If those black boxes are never found, we may never know the actual cause of the crash of Air France Flight 447. I definitely wish the search team the best of luck. God speed to you all.
